finished piece 3- landscape
here we have a landscape which consists of both man made and natural scenery such as trees and wall which use to be part of the bowling hall.
there is some good use of shading in this image, the shading is used on the houses to represent the the dark roof tiles. there are a few light values on the roof this is to show the lighter side of the roof e.g. cause of the how the sun reflects off the roof or the rain on roof makes the roof tiles shine. the light shading on the ground is represent the grass, this helps to make the ground present to the viewer rather than just white ground. the houses and old structure have some light shading to make them more 3 dimensional.
their is some impressionistic drawing used in this image such as the leaves on the ground are done with quick squiggles on the page and used some dark shading behind to represent the dirt on the ground under the leaves. also there some small drawings of grass scattered around the ground to help make the ground feel more like a grassy hill rather than just a white ground. the bricks on the house also use impressionistic techniques as well, the buildings have various bricks draw on to create the impression that whole house is bricked rather than the image just being a rectangle.
there is some direct line in this image such as the roofs and the wall as well. these lines help to guide the viewers eyes through the image. the mid ground of the image consist of the wall, trees and hill between the 2. the main focus point of the image is the old wall. the bricks on the wall aren't consistent and imperfect which is the intention to show how old the wall is so the brick work is very straight. some of the walls also has dark values this is the represent the stains and mould that has developed over the decades.
there is some improvements that are needed such as the arch on the wall isn't well draw and looks a bit of a mess. the chimneys do seem rushed and aren't well detailed.
finished piece 2- still life
this still life has a verity of different objects form natural e.g. pot plant to man made e.g. camera. there is some implied line in the image such as the stem of the plant which draws yours eyes downwards into the rest of the image. when the image is put into the rule of thirds, the plants are very much the focal point of the image but most of the objects and drawing techniques are at the bottom which make them the focus points.
there is a verity of different textures in the image, the camera texture is done by using dot shading this helps to represent the rubber texture around the camera, the camera case at the end of the image uses cross hatch shading to help create the cross hatch material that the camera case has. the wood and long plant has similar
wood grain texture.
there is some good shading on these textures such as the camera and camera case, as you can see on the camera you can see the different values on the dot shading. this is to show lighting on the object, we can see that camera that has darker values around bottom of the camera and parts of camera which are further away from the viewer, this tells us that there isn't much light around these areas. parts of the camera and camera case have 3D effect such as the camera lens, the camera lens as a much thicker outline which help to give a bit of depth in the camera. and the case has thick outline around the handle and opening which make them stand out more.
the composition has a lot of verity in objects that are evenly spaced out so no object is orphaned, also it looks much more pleasing to the viewer as these objects together have a sense of unity. there is an odd number of objects so the viewer wont be pair the objects with one another so composition is a bit more dynamic. we also get a sense of depth in the image. as you can see with the camera it is further back in the image where as the camera case is more forward. this is due to the image have a 3 dimensional surface which helps to create more depth.
there is some shadows event in this drawing as you can see on the wood surface you can see how the shadows of the objects fall onto the surface as well as the other objects.there is also some shadows of the plants on the wall.
there are some improvements which could be made such as the shadows on the walls, they don't look like they are shadows of the plants and don't look that convincing. the candle holder tries to create a foreshortening effect because parts of the candle are angled away but makes the candle seem slanted to one angel. the shadows don't have a verity of values they seem to be the same value of shading this could be due to the light source giving out a even light to all the objects however the plant at the right side of the image does have a slightly darker value. there is a bit of kissing between the 2 plants as the leaf on the right side is over lapping with the roots. even the candle and camera case are near kissing as you can see their is a very little gap between the two objects, perhaps if the candle was moved more to the left this could be avoided.

finished piece 1- life drawing
finished piece 1- life drawing
here we have a completed life drawing, the picture is mainly from the torso to the head and doesn't really show any of the legs so we don't get much sense of balance or weight with this image as the legs aren't a part of this drawing. we get a good sense of the pose, you can see the model is at an angle, facing her right shoulder towards the viewer, we even the angle of the head and some emotion in the drawing. there is some foreshortening in the picture, the left shoulder is angled away from the viewer which creates a foreshorten effect.
shading is used well its not just used for light and dark values of the image but to show certain parts of the body such as bone structure around the neck, we get good sense of the clavicle in this drawing as the clavicle is has darker values to show that the clavicle are clearly visible in the model. the shading is mainly around the edge of the model, this helps to create the illusion of 3D rather the picture looking flat this is evident around the left of the image, you can see the shading around the body and also the thick lines around the body does help to make the drawing much more 3 dimensional.
there are some improvements to be made first the hands looks far to square and doesn't look very natural, the face could use some improving make it look more realistic. around the breast there are far to many hairy lines and take away from the curves of the breasts. it also could used some light shading around the abdominals.
week 12- poses
this post is all about posture and pose. posture is all about the weight and balance of the model.
pose is a subtle art, pose is giving the drawing emotion and giving life to drawing this can be done by how the spine is curved, the angle of the head and moment of the hand.
quick sketch 1
here we have a quick sketch which took a few minutes. here we get the basic information such as the pose of the model
quick sketch 2
in this sketch we get good sense of the pose and as well as the posture, as the left legs slightly more weight on it. there isn't much detail around the body and just feels like a contour of the model as there is very little detail on the drawing such as shading and detail such as hair, muscles on body.
drawing 1
here we have a drawing of the model sitting on table, we get a very good sense of the pose in this picture we can see that the model angled slightly due to her holding her leg, we can see that see is angled more towards the left side of the drawing. the proportions on the model are ok , the height of the model is right but some of the body parts aren't proportioned right such as the left leg. the thigh on the left leg is far to big and should of been reduced, the right is could of been a little bit more bigger as the right leg covered more of the models body.
drawing 2
this drawing is does have some good points such as some foreshortening as the model is laying down so there will be a great effect of foreshortening such as. this picture is much weaker compared to previous one for example the proportions and the position of the arms aren't correct as there was no negative space when model folded her arms under her head, there is some nice detail around the body such as around the legs how the left leg looks disconnected to the rest of the body.

week 11 muscles
in this drawing does show off the pose well and does have bit of detail such as the muscles in the neck, the chest such as hair and there seems to be some slight shading around the body. however there isnt enough shading around the body and makes the image very hollow. the arms seem far to skinny and don't show off any muscle at all and are far too straight. there seem to be a bit to much negative space between the legs. there is room for improvement such as adding more detail and shading this make the image look much more realistic and also adding in detail on the head, arms and feet.
anatomical study
the images below are anatomical study of certain parts of the body rather than the whole body. here we get more detail in the study and be able to see curves, lighting and bone structure of the model.
torso
here is a study of torso. the proportion on the body is right size, we get a good outline of the body and even the curve on the spine however the arms are to straight we don't really see the muscle and how the muscles curve. there is some good shading around the body and some nice detail in the skin such as on the spine, with the detail on spine and helps to show the curvature of the spine.
leg
here we have a study of a leg, we can see that this study has a lot more detail added compared to the previous study, such as curves of the calf muscles and detail such as shading and hair. the shading here is used to indicate the bones such as the ankle. there is some nice detail added such as the hair on the leg as well as little shading on the leg. however there could been bit more shading on the calf area.

week 10- movement
this post is all about movement. here we will see quick sketches of model as well as the movement of the model. the skill of being able to quickly sketch movement are great help to improve on anatomical skills and of animation and video games these are mainly used in pre production such as story boards.
quick sketches
here we have 3 quick sketches of model in different poses using drawing techniques know as continuous line . this is where you continue drawing without removing the pencil form the page. you can see that the images do improve. all the images do help to show off the pose of the model, the left image does show some weight and balance. we can see that most of the weight is on the left arm and the body leans towards left to balance out the weight. the right image also shows so weight and balance as the pose shows how the legs are evenly. however the biggest problem with the images are the proportion of the bodies are wrong, the some torso are to wide and the legs to skinny such as the middle image.
here we see a quick sketch of moving person. this is very rushed and early drawing that was done, however even though this rushed we get enough information about how the persons walks around the table. however the sketches aren't very well done as it doesn't show the proportion well and by the end the bodies get much more skinny and doesn't really show how the placement of body such as legs, arms. there is a lot of work to be done to improve.
direct study
here we have a quick study of some movement, there are a verity of different movements sketch here, walking, stand and punching these are just practice to on the movement drawing techniques. you can a slight improvements.

week 9 Basic Anatomy (no week 8 cause was at BAF Game)
this week was all about anatomy so that means we were doing drawings of life model. this was my first time doing such type of drawing and looking at my work I have a long way to go.
stage 1- quick sketches (1 min each)
Here we have some quick sketches of the model. we can see that there is some planing such as place lines on page which outline where the shoulder and the angle of the shoulder as well. also mapping out where arms go as well as the spine. this is to help when drawing the model as know where to draw.
stage 2
this drawing took 5 minutes here you can see more planning such as where the body parts such as legs, arms etc will be placed as well as the angle of the hips and waist. one problem you can see is from the leg on the right side of the page there is far to much negative space between the legs, the torso doesn't look very realistic as the right side of the torso is to straight there isn't any curves at all.
stage 3
in this image so can see the use of measurements by using the pencil to mark out the length of the model and to mark out the waist and length of the arms. here the drawing is much better the curves are much better and the proportion of the model has improved. however the head does seem a bit to small and the arms aren't very well detail and doesn't show any muscle and look to straight.
here is the final image of the model, we can clearly see how this image has used the techniques from previous sketches. the proportions on the body are right and the head looks right size. there is some detail around the body such as curves and folds in body. however there isn't much shading on the body and left leg looks out of place.
direct study
direct study image 1- front view
we get good sense of the pose in this image, we can see that the model is angled away from us. there is a bit of foreshorten on the left shoulder as it is angled away from the viewer. the breasts aren't well drawn as there far to many hairy lines around them that they don't look natural. the hand isn't well drawn and doesn't look natural. the neck if far to big.
direct study image 2- back view
their some good use of detail in this image such as the shading on the hair, as certain areas are more darker than others due to the light, the folds on the skin are clear as well and we can even seen the line of the spine. their is some good shading being used here as you can see around the shoulder areas their is a much darker value due to the model being angled away from the light.
direct study image 3- side view
good sense of pose in this image, we can see a little foreshortening on the back of the leg and on the shoulders as we have just see where the other leg and arm is. the breasts are a bit smaller compared to the model and as you can see their have been attempts to correct this in the drawing. their isn't as much shading on this model compared to previous drawings, the shading is mostly event on the right side of the body and the hair. to improve this drawing its should include more shading around rest of the body to make the image. the arm is far to straight and doesn't show much muscle.
