finished piece 2- still life

this still life has a verity of different objects form natural e.g. pot plant to man made e.g. camera. there is some implied line in the image such as the stem of the plant which draws yours eyes downwards into the rest of the image. when the image is put into the rule of thirds, the plants are very much the focal point of the image but most of the objects and drawing techniques are at the bottom which make them the focus points.

there is a verity of different textures in the image, the camera texture is done by using dot shading this helps to represent the rubber texture around the camera, the camera case at the end of the image uses cross hatch shading to help create the cross hatch material that the camera case has. the wood and long plant has similar
wood grain texture.

there is some good shading on these textures such as the camera and camera case, as you can see on the camera you can see the different values on the dot shading. this is to show lighting on the object, we can see that camera that has darker values around bottom of the camera and parts of camera which are further away from the viewer, this tells us that there isn't much light around these areas. parts of the camera and camera case have 3D effect such as the camera lens, the camera lens as a much thicker outline which help to give a bit of depth in the camera. and the case has thick outline around the handle and opening which make them stand out more.

the composition has a lot of verity in objects that are evenly spaced out so no object is orphaned, also it looks much more pleasing to the viewer as these objects together have a sense of unity. there is an odd number of objects so the viewer wont be pair the objects with one another so composition is a bit more dynamic. we also get a sense of depth in the image. as you can see with the camera it is further back in the image where as the camera case is more forward. this is due to the image have a 3 dimensional surface which helps to create more depth.

there is some shadows event in this drawing as you can see on the wood surface you can see how the shadows of the objects fall onto the surface as well as the other objects.there is also some shadows of the plants on the wall.

there are some improvements which could be made such as the shadows on the walls, they don't look like they are shadows of the plants and don't look that convincing. the candle holder tries to create a foreshortening effect  because parts of the candle are angled away but makes the candle seem slanted to one angel. the shadows don't have a verity of values they seem to be the same value of shading this could be due to the light source giving out a even light to all the objects however the plant at the right side of the image does have a slightly darker value. there is a bit of kissing between the 2 plants as the leaf on the right side is over lapping with the roots. even the candle and camera case are near kissing as you can see their is a very little gap between the two objects, perhaps if the candle was moved more to the left this could be avoided.
